In response to your questions:

Are you going to publish more models to trace soon with atypical body types?

That depends on you! Tracing real body models is an initiative based entirely on participation. We make new models available as soon as we receive new photos (your photos…) from which we can create new silhouettes to dress for fashion design. If you want to help us, the best thing you can do is organize photo sessions with volunteers of a variety of ages and proportions, and encourage people who are not always comfortable in their bodies to participate! It’s fun to do, and we always feel better after facing our fears. And it’s for a good cause: helping the fashion industry to develop beyond the tyranny of the restrictive model-type that makes so many women feel excluded and inadequate.

When are you going to publish some fashion drawings that were made using the models on the site?

Soon. We’re waiting to have enough to put together a gallery page. Up until now, we have received creations from three different fashion designers.

Who are the people who have accepted to lend images of their bodies to create the silhouettes to trace inspired from realistic proportions?

Up until now, the volunteers who have sent us photographs to draw from come from three continents; Europe, North America and South America. The majority of the people who have participed are dressmakers themselves and have been using the models we drew from their images to sketch their own clothing.

Bikini Body + 20 new full-size templates

SHOW US YOUR BIKINI BODY

The media has been driving us crazy the last few years with their “bikini-body” and “beach-ready” article about how to get (perfect) for the summer. Have you ever hesitated to go to the beach or to a swimming pool because you didn’t want to strip down, believing that you don’t measure up to those impossible ideals? No more! Please, take your body swimming no matter how you think it should or shouldn’t look. You just might have so much fun frolicking in the water that the “looks” part will lose some of its exaggerated importance.

And while  you’re at it… Help us show the diversity of body sizes that exist in real life!

Host a bikini-body photo-shoot! Here’s how to go about it:

Darling, Rosa, and Thémi, 17 new full-size templates to trace and dress

More new model templates to trace – with a huge thank you to all our underwear photo shoot participants!

The Every Body is a Model Body campaign aims to exclude no one. We are not trying to alienate girls or women who choose to model, either for fun or to earn their living by calling those who participate in our campaign “real” bodies. Everyone’s body is a real body… even if it does respond to the fashion industry’s harmful, outdated norms. Things are changing quickly these days through the efforts of many, many people across the globe. If you want to help, please share this initiative with your friends and get involved by sending underwear silhouettes of your own!

We wish to increase the diversity of the templates we have offered so far – and extra-small, small and medium-sized models are as needed and as warmly invited as large, extra-large and absolutely voluptious ones! The goal is to be all-inclusive, so that slowly, together, we can inch towards a new, shared perception of the body and a body-image vocabulary that points out the beauty in everyone.

Reversing the trends of negative body image, body dysmorphic disorder, yo-yo dieting, anorexia, compulsive eating, binge eating, and bulimia on women requires a major shift in the way the female body is presented in the media, but fashion is by far the worst offender.

Many young girls grow up idolizing fashion models and as many teenagers can’t wait to try designing their own fashions, but if the only references they have are near-impossible ideals, how can we expect them to learn to accept and love their own body shape and size?

The power of imagery on our psyche goes a long way, and is unfortunately largely unconscious.
The Every body is a model body campaign aims to bring body diversity to the fashion design world by tracing real body silhouettes of all shapes and sizes and offering them freely for use by design lovers and students. By inviting women of every age and physical condition to participate as models, we wish to draw the line at how much we’re willing to buy into the false illusions the fashion industry creates by constantly undermining our self-esteem.

We believe that everybody is beautiful.
We believe that every body is a model body.
